Frugal Living

Finally managed to get hold of a dvd of the programme from last year which features our site. It's a piece on frugal living for the regional current affairs programme Inside Out. The allotments segment is about 3 minutes in although it's worth watching the whole thing to see it in context. I get to pick a cabbage in slow motion, stare into space and say "yeah" about half a dozen times.

  4. Blimey, that's the great Ray Gosling, isn't it? Or his Radio 4 spoof Roy Mallard? Either way, quite an honour.

I've no idea how my first year of veg. growing is going, 'cos I've nothing much to compare against. My main spuds are currently flowering, whereas my earlies and second earlies aren't. What's that about?
Courgettes coming on rather excitingly, as are tomatoes, purple brocolli, strawberries and tomatoes. Runner beans got blasted in the big wind, but that's about the only disaster so far. Trying to grow peppers and chillis in the potting shed but I don't think it's warm enough in there most days. So to blather on, but I have to tell someone and you're the only veg blogger I know!

  5. Re your spuds, I don't know what that's about either! Sounds like you've got them the wrong way round, mistaking one for the other if you see what I mean. The chillis and peppers would be better in a greenhouse but I'm guessing you know that and haven't got one, anyway just give them as much light as you can and you never know your luck.

Feel free to blather any time, cheers, Simon
