Peas and beans

Harvested the last of the maincrop peas today; I've been freezing most of them as I now have plenty of beans -  runners, climbing French and the wonderful Egyptian pea bean. This last one always crops well in either drought or wet; it's been doing well for me from saved seed for several years now.

Beans

I cropped the first runner beans this week - all four of them. So it's no secret that this particular crop is a bit of an embarrassment this year. Luckily the pea beans and French beans are doing well:

Pea beans

The climbing Egyptian pea beans (on the left), which I'm trying for the first time, are doing far better than my runner beans (on the right), which haven't liked the dry weather one bit and are looking positively pathetic.

French and runner beans

These are ready now just as there's a break in the peas which is good timing, though more by luck than judgement if I'm being honest.

Runner beans

Like most people I used to grow a row of these and end up giving most of them away or feeding them to the cows. So now I just grow a few up a tripod and find that's plenty enough.
