Clover paths
I've been dividing the plot up into beds about four feet wide over the past couple of years, divided by paths sown with white clover. This means I can work the beds from the paths without compacting the soil; it also makes it easier to get around. The paths have needed some resowing here and there and a bit of weeding in spring but otherwise are working out well. I've made them sixteen inches wide - the width of the mower.

I was thinking of doing something similar next year on my new plot. How long did the white clover take to establish before it was happy to be walked on? and how often does it need cutting?
Hi Doug, it took about 4-6 weeks before I could walk on it and I mow it every week. I used agricultural white clover like what's used for green manure - if I was going to do it again I think I'd use wild clover as that's slower growing and wouldn't need mowing so often.
